It’s about time to say Goodbye to 2008 and Hello to 2009.
It’s the perfect moment to push the reset button, clear your throat, get rid of waste products and other problems – and bundle some fresh energy to start new projects.
So i’m looking back at the last 12 months and thinking about the good dozen that will follow up.
Only an unsorted list of thoughts about Presidents, Twitter, Fat Companies, Games, MXM-Projects, Browsers and more…
The Bush-Era is finally over. I thought it would never end.
It’s a new beginning – not only for the U.S.A. but for the whole world as well.
I hope Obama really can. It’s a chance, good luck.
There’s still too much censorship on this planet.
In 2009 we all need to take care about Net Neutrality, Freedom of Speech and the commercial and political use of our private data – more than ever before.
Not only China, even free and democratic states like the United Kingdom, United States of America and Germany – just to name a few – are about to control every little footstep you do in your life. Take care.
It’s Microsoft’s latest marketing trick: The “new” Windows Version will get the magical number “7″ but in fact it’s only a Vista 2.
When you look at the latest Windows 7 Beta it’s just a tuned up Vista. It looks nearly the same, has a handful new irrelevant features (NO innovations at all) and works a bit quicker than Vista. That’s all.
I’m excited to see if Win7 will become Microsoft’s next flop… once after people realized the trick – and that there are all those “Ultimate”, “Quarter-Ultimate” and “Half-Ultimate” Versions again.
It’s a love-hate relationship between Google and me. I love many of their products, like Gmail, Analytics, iGoogle and AdSense.
But i hate how Google censors the web, how they try to “overtake” people’s content with every launch of a new product, how they always come with the same old excuses as if we all were dumb; and i hate Google for getting more evil from year to year.
Anyway, there’s no competitor in sight and Google still rules the Internet in 2009. That’s not good and not bad.
Electronic Arts is another good example what can happen when companies are getting too big and monopolistic.
They will release The Sims 3 in February, 2 big and maybe 1 small expansions will follow over the year and sell record-like.
But i don’t expect that EA will bring any innovation to the scene – or change its strange DRM-handling.
That’s the worst thing for me! No new Lara Croft Game all over the year. For me, Tomb Raider Underworld is the game of the year and i can hardly wait for the next chapter.
But i’ve heard about downloadable extra content that’ll be released soon. That’s better than nothing, a small light of hope…
BTW: The worst game of 2008 and biggest disappointment for me is “Spore”. No comment.
Times are getting harder for Mozilla in 09, due to Google’s own browser Chrome.
I have the small hope that Google could close the Chrome-Project the same quick way they closed “Lively” and will do with “Knol” (just another prophecy of mine)…
Listen to me Google: You can clip your huge financial flow to Mozilla if you want. But you will never get me to install your piece of crap-browser.
It’s clear to see that Twitter.com has all the power and potential to become the next big thing on the Internet.
Twitter could play in the same league like Facebook and MySpace – if it only could generate enough money and stay independent.
If Google or Facebook overtake Twitter, the magic will come to an end. By overtaking Twitter the big rulers could “easily” get rid of a strong competitor, and let it slowly die.
2009 will see the release of the long awaited “Luisa & The Elfish Spell“, so it will be a magical and very sexy year.
I’m also very happy with the evolution of this site, the mxm-blog here on mxm-studios.com. And i’m looking forward to The Sims 3 and the capabilities of that game.
But i also have realized that the future of x-sim.com and pleased-3d.com is (still) unclear. There is a good chance to restart x-sim.com when The Sims 3 is out but it still depends on many factors.
Unfortunately the Pleased Magazine never has reached such an loyal audience like “Dreams of Luisa”. Creating such a hot magazine is way too much work and it’s just sad when only a few dozens of people get the full version.
But the last word is not yet spoken. This post is only about thoughts ;)
And who knows what the new year will have to offer.
Thanks for reading. Feel free to comment and give your own expectations about 2009.
