It’s a black day for twitter and a nightmare for countless clueless twitterers – like me.
Due to the very bad manner of the strange happenings that curently happen on twitter, i tell a long story short:
If you are on twitter and your profile keeps posting loads of strange tweets that contain the word “Mikeyy” – RESET YOUR PASSWORD!
To do so go to: Settings/Password and click on “Forgot your password?”
You will receive a mail from twitter with a reset-link. For what i can tell you so far this simple password reset will bring your profile back to normal…
I can’t give you any technical support and information but i can tell you about my experience with “Mikeyy”.
I (my twitter profile) got infected simply by visiting another profile that already was infected. I only noticed a call for help and visited that twitterers page – in the same moment i thought “no”.
So i recommend to not visit other profiles that contain strange “Mikeyy”-idiocy. Also be careful on your hunt for new people to follow – until the issue is fixed.
I also heard that background pics and other settings could be infected, too. Check is out.
I don’t know for sure if i got infected by simply opening the ill profile or because i responded to that person (who is not to blame).
But i know for sure that the terrible and harmful issue still is not resolved while i’m writing these lines!
The official twitter status only tells that they have “taken steps to remove the offending updates”. This message is currently 9 hours old, the attack against my profile appeared more than 7 hours after that post.
The official SpamWatch account even provides a related message that’s 13 hours old. At least this tweet is helpful. But i’m not sure if twitter even knows that the worm is still making its way around…
I guess with every further hour twitter’s value decreases a few 100k dollars… and – now i’m really bad – maybe it’s better if a capable company like Google buys twitter.com and makes the clock run faster.
I “love” twitter but i’m sad to say that they are to blame. Today’s worm-attack wasn’t the first and it’s only a matter of time that those attacks become more aggressive and harmful.
And the official support is… you know, which support?
A bottle of fine wine goes to @unipede who quickly provided me with this helpful article “Warning: Twitter hit by StalkDaily Worm” on techcrunch.
I also want to thank @ExtremeAnnette for pushing me a bit harder :) Also visit Annette’s homepage where you can learn how to enhance your Health, Wealth and Lifestyle.
Last not least i want to thank all my followers for staying cool and not unfollow me due to the nonsense my twitter page spit out.
After all, Happy Easter to the Christians and a wonderful and peaceful weekend to everybody else.
