My dear reader and passionate Luisa-Fan Elisabeth asked last week if i could send her some love poses which she could take to create own sex scenes more easily in SimPose. I wanted to do this since ages and so i sat down and created 12 beautiful sex poses from scratch.

The collection was made for a female/male couple and contains 2 blowjob poses, 2 missionary poses, 3 riding poses and 5 more. I know that 12 are not enough – but it’s a start. After all, the poses look good from all sides and you can choose “Flip Horizontal” in Photoshop to mirror them. Of course you will need to change some positions of the models, depending on the meshes you use.

I really hope you like the pose package, check out the screenshots and download everything on dreamsofluisa.com >>>

Let’s talk about SimPose. Or, to make this post less specific, let’s also talk about posing in general… Posing of virtual models, avatars or however you call those sexy digital bunnies.

This post starts a small series of workshops about the methods i use to do 3D-Art.

How can you create good-looking poses? How can you compose a whole scenery? How do i pimp up the hot bodies of my models? How do i create all those wonderful virtual smut?

You want to know? I’m going to tell you…

Sorry to bother you, non-simmers!

But this time i must bother all of you who are not creating with The Sims 2. It’s required that i underline some things about the posing tool SimPose2 first.

SimPose is available here but before you try it you need to realize that it’s still some kind of unfinished software. Working with SimPose is really hardcore! Anyway, it is good enough to create great imagery.

I’ve already written a fat workshop about SimPose, please study Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4 before you go on here. From now on i expect that you have basic knowledge.

SimPose in theory!

Before you start posing:

Make the SimPose stage as large as possible. Move the borderline to the left. Go to “View” and switch off “Toolbar” and “Status Bar”.

Also in “View” switch off “Show Ground Plane”. In “View/Options” set up solid blue as background color. Make your model appear in an all blue surrounding (other solid colors may work as well).

Load your model and zoom in, let the model fill the whole screen.

In “View/Set Lighting State” click on “Enable Lighting” and choose a middle gray tone. If SimPose didn’t crash here you’re on the safe side.

Note: What you see is what you get. The bigger your monitor screen the better.

SimPose-Beginners should avoid the following things because they can easily mess up everything. Try these only when you are an advanced poser:

Don’t rotate and move the view-stage to see the model from the side you want. Navigating in SimPose can be tricky. Better use the slider “root_trans / slider 3” to rotate the model around the vertical axis.

Don’t worry when your pose does not look nice from all sides. Most poses only look perfect from only one point of view. 360° degree poses are state-of-the-art and very hard to create.

Don’t expect SimPose to put out only beautiful results. SimPose is only for posing, it can position a model and add some lighting/shading – but the final master picture will always be created later in the graphic editor (Photoshop, Gimp…). This step is called post-processing.

Avoid using the “Screen Capture” function in SimPose (File/Screen Capture/…). It’s buggy and a potential SimPose crasher. Always use stand-alone screenshot makers like WinSnap or others.

A Guide through the sliders!

In SimPose every joint has 3 sliders that move the model’s joint into different directions. Not every pose slider is useful! Here’s a list of the sliders i never use:

“auskel” and “root_rot”: I can’t remember that i’ve ever used them. “root_trans” is the rotation tool of choice.

“Joint8″… stay away, useless.

I never touch “thumb1″ as well. Everything you need for thumb posing you can do with “thumb0″ and “thumb2 / slider 3″.

Can’t see anything that “breathe_trans” puts an effect on.

Everything including “dress” and below is useless. You don’t have anything to do in this area.

These sliders i only use in special situations:

“Location” is for last step fine tuning. Especially to make 2 (or more) models fit together.

“Spine2″ often creates strange looking poses. Normally i avoid this slider.

“bicep” is only emergency fine tuning. Playing with “upperarm” is enough most of the time.

“wrist” can create good-looking arm-poses but is not required in most cases. Also good for fine-tuning.

“pelvis” can create nice poses as well. But many poses you see in the internet look strange because creators have overrated “pelvis”.

Even in the main joints there are still some sliders more useful than others…

Example: While i always use all 3 sliders in “thigh” and “calf”, i never use “anyfinger1 / sliders 1 and 3″. This would mean i can move the joints of my fingertips to the sides, which is pretty painful ;)

Alright for now. Next time i will give you some practical tips and examples about posing a virtual character. This is going to be interesting for non-simmers as well.

Quick Start:

Just unpack the zip into your SimPose directory, start SimPose, mount and save the model on the “Character” tab, in the “Pose Library” load the file “BASIC-stand-poses-mxm.pl2″ and set up a pose on the “Static Pose” tab.

Whenever you want to pose a standing model you can use one of these basic poses for a nice and easy start.

Tip: Don’t move and turn the view-stage in SimPose to look at the poses from all sides. Only zoom in and drag down. Rotate the model with the “root_trans / 3″ slider.

Be aware that some poses may not look nice from all angles. I’ve saved them in their best position, don’t move the view-stage and everything will be fine…

Upcoming tips:

I will unleash more tips about posing in SimPose in one of the next posts.

A new series of masterclass tutorials is also in preparation, thanks for your interest.

Here’s the download link again: 10 Basic Stand Poses for SimPose

*About Lena Luv:

Wondering who the f*** Lena Luv is? It’s a virtual porn performer (you have read this right), playing the main character Luisa Blacksmith in the “Dreams of Luisa” Series of erotic machinima comics.

Learn more about it on luisa6.info or go to elfishspell.com if you are hot enough to stand some virtual sex scenes.
In Part 1 i gave you a basic explanation of the required files and their formats. I also gave you tips and hints about some typical problems, like hair and alpha-channels. This part is still most important to read. It makes you understand what’s going on.

In Part 2 i told you how to extract Body-, Face- and Hair-Meshes of a Sim to make it ready to be imported in SimPose. This step requires the tool SimPe and a little patience. I also told you how to organize SimPose-Files best.

Part 3 was dedicated to the textures that have to be prepared for SimPose. You learned how to avoid the use of SimPose’s “Texture Overlays” but create even better Textures anyway.

Now, in Part 4, we will put those files together in SimPose and save our SimModel.

Make sure all files are ready to go!

Like i already told you in Part 1 you will need the following 6 files:

body.5gd (the body 3D-Mesh)

body.bmp (the body texture/skin)

face.5gd (the face 3D-Mesh)

face.bmp (the face texture/skin)

hair.5gd (the hair 3D-Mesh)

hair.bmp (or 6tx, hair texture)

Make sure you have all these files collected in one and the same folder inside the SimPose Directory. Example: C:/Programs/SimPose2/myModels/BettyPrime

As you can see i will use my model Betty Prime for this workshop. I’m currently messing around with Betty in preparation for the upcoming Pleased Magazine “Pleased 5″.

SimPose 2 Character Tab!

Start SimPose and go to the “Character” Tab (1). This is the place where you bring all parts of a model together. Complete models can also be saved and loaded here.

In the “Model Selection” you can have up to 4 different SimModels which are called “Figures” (2). Every figure consists of at least 3 “Parts” (3), well you know: body, face, hair.

SimPose Character Tab

There is also a fourth slot for additional parts like glasses for example. I recommend to leave that slot alone for now…

Please also leave the “Position” (4) area alone! Unfinished – unstable – useless.

The mesh and texture area!

Set the “Model Selection” to “figure0″, which is the slot for our first Sim.

I always start with the Body-Part and put it into the first slot “part0″. But this is up to you, the order of the 3 Body-Parts is not important. For now, let’s start with the Body-Mesh of our sim.

1. Import the body.5gd

In the area “Mesh and texture(s)” click on the big button “Mesh” (1).

Choosing the Body-Mesh

Go to the Body-Mesh you want to load (.5gd) and choose it. The shape of a Sim should appear on the stage.

It looks like this, depending on the Mesh you’ve chosen. Note that my Mesh is called “dressed.5gd” and the name appears on the Mesh-Button:

The Sim-Body on stage

2. Import the face.5gd and hair.5gd!

Repeat the last step and load the face- and hair-meshes onto the stage:

In the “Model Selection” switch to “part1″, click the big Mesh-Button and choose your “face.5gd”.

Another part for another part

The shape of the face (head) appears on the stage and you can select “part2″ from the menu to load the Hair-Mesh.

The model seems to be complete, it looks like this:

All 3 Meshes have been loaded

Texturize the Meshes!

Now we are going to fit the textures/skins – the .bmp-files – to the three meshes.

Which texture you do first is not important. Just take care that you put the right skin on the right Body-Part ;)

To practice a bit switch back to “part0″, the Body-Mesh (“dressed” in my case). See the screenshot above if you are not sure.

The “Base Texture”!

Now click on the big button “Base Texture” (1) in the “Mesh and texture(s)” area.

Go to your Body-Texture (body.bmp) and choose it. It appears on the body of the SimModel immediately (2):

The Base Texture

Face and Hair!

Do you know what? Just repeat it, do the same for the Face and Hair:

Select “face” in the Part-Menu and load the texture (.bmp) into the “Base Texture” slot.

After that, select “hair” in the Part-Menu and load the Hair-Texture:

All 3 Body-Parts are complete

Note: I recommend to give all related files the same name. In this example my Body-Mesh is called “body” and the Body-Texture is also called “body”. Make it so detailed and easy as it should be.

How to save a SimModel in SimPose!

This wasn’t too hard, was it?

Better let us save the model quickly before SimPose crashes. Just use the “Save” button in the “Character Tab/Model Selection” to save complete Sims.

Note 1: Don’t change your file-structure and directories afterwards! SimPose will not be able to load a model after it has been moved on the computer.

Note 2: Save every other outfit of your model. Even when there are only little differences. It will help a lot. Also make sure to give proper file-names, like “BettyPrime-dressed-summerskirt” for example.

How to load more SimModels into SimPose 2!

You can have up to 4 Sim-Persons in SimPose at the same time to arrange a group of four.

Remember the “figure” slot in the “Model Selection”? It’s point 2 on the first screenshot, have a look.

When you set this to “figure1″ all slots in the “Mesh and texture(s)” area will be emptied and you can load the Meshes/Textures of another person – just like you did before with “figure0″.

The only thing that makes it really confusing is the strange numeration of the slots. Why the hell does it start at “0″ and not “1″?

But after a while you will figure this out as well.

google_ad_client = "pub-4015321323190172";
google_ad_slot = "6065167205";
google_ad_width = 336;
google_ad_height = 280;
//-->

Ready for the next steps?

I’ve told you everything about managing a wonderful sims to appear in SimPose 2.

The rest is up to you, just take your time and practice a bit. Fool around with the things you’ve learned here and don’t start with an ambitioned project.

I will soon show you how to create nice poses and hopefully find enough time to write more tutorials for the MXM Master Class.
