It’s no secret that i’m a Firefox user and Mozilla supporter who believes in the quality of that browser.
You may get tired of that endless “what’s the best browser” discussion (i am, too) but if you still use older versions of Firefox, current Internet Explorer or – even worse – Google Chrome, it’s really about time to put it straight into the trash can and become a serious person.
Because there are good reasons for it and it is getting dangerous…
Surfing, Online-Shopping, Online-Banking… that’s pretty cool and relatively safe if you can tell Firefox 3 your own.
And now, during the cash-flowing Christmas time, it’s the main season for hackers, spammers, phishers…
That’s not only because they exist and they are bad persons; it’s also because of you!
I’ll make it short. There are still many people who are surfing with the hopelessly outdated Firefox 2. Why the hell?
You are still a Firefox-User, update now, what’s the problem?
BTW, Mozilla stops upgrading Firefox 2 today. It is no longer a supported program. If you catch a virus, it’s your problem, you’ll be on your own.
Still using Internet Explorer, i see. Oh yeah, it’s just on your computer, nice. Don’t worry about it – just don’t take it for Internet surfing!
But you still want to surf the Internet? Yes, you can. But at first install Firefox 3.
Seriously. It’s making the news today that there is a new and pretty unfunny security hole in Internet Explorer 7 and – so they say – all (!) other IE-Versions as well.
The current security risk is extreme and Microsoft still hasn’t developed a fix. Update 12/18: Microsoft has finally released a patch that fixes the Zero-Day-Exploit. It should install itself automatically the next time you start IE.
If you still think it can’t be that bad then pay attention: A simple visit on an infected website is enough to catch a cold.
The Chinese Company “Knownsec”, specialized in Internet Security, has found the hole in Microsoft’s Browser and published the risky code on the Internet – by accident, so they say.
Anyway, the code quickly made its way through the web, was taken by hackers and is already on the way straight back to you!
And if you are just using Internet Explorer because you think it’s cute, and you don’t worry about all those stories, chances are high that you won’t notice when you get infected.
Double check your next Internet bills and bank statements. That’s all i can tell you.
OK, if everybody would surf with Firefox 3 it would be a better world. But it’s not that easy. People have different meanings. People think Google Chrome is a cool browser because it’s new and it’s just Google. They install Google’s free spyware and believe it’s good. No matter what other people say, it’s just Google, hey, life is fun!
I can’t do anything against that.
Other people don’t listen to all the warnings. They are just too lazy or uninterested or who knows… But later they scream out loud and call themselves being victims!
Ignoring the red lights and wondering about a crash?
Then we will hear the same old crap again: That the Internet is a dangerous place, full of criminals and that it needs to be controlled and regulated!
All because some people are too stubborn to update their software!
I don’t say that there is a perfect way to avoid getting hacked. With a little bad luck it can happen to everybody, even to Firefox 3-Users, who knows.
But what i can tell you for sure is that the best virus-protection is you.
PS: Sorry that i didn’t mention Safari and Opera in the post. Though nobody (in the press) recommends them so directly like Firefox 3, Opera and Safari also seem to be much better and safer than Internet Explorer.
About Google Chrome: I’m pretty sure that i will write more posts about this thing soon. Google is slowly getting ugly, you will see…
What is your opinion? Have you been hacked? Want to share some tips with other mxm visitors? Feel free to comment…
Thanks for reading ;)
Yeah my computer has been infected numerous times, with Firefox 3.4 at the time and also the Windows firewall, WOT and AdBlock and AVG running. The site that caused all the damage a simple and well known gaming site that offers Patches and Trainers. GameCopyWorld.com. I have installed SpyBot’s Tea Timer and since have not gotten infections from the site. It does not happen every time you go so I’m thinking it must have something to do with the different ads on the pages. I also use Auslogic’s Boostspeed to stop Firefox from loading pics that are not directly related to the site so it blocks many ads.
That site seems to be dangerous terrain :o
I knew it was wrong when i’ve heard that only porn sites are infected… When they don’t know what to say, it’s always Porn sites :)
Thanks for the info ;)
